CARMEL - Charlie Castino fired a 1-under-par 35 Tuesday to lead the Noblesville boys golfers to a 155-176 win over Guerin Catholic at Plum Creek.
Danny Collins added a 39 for the Millers.
"I was happy to see Charlie and Danny play well today," Noblesville coach Gary Deakyne said. "They have both struggled a little so far. Hopefully, this will get the confidence back."
Vince Drahman carded a 40. Spencer King and Tom Jones each shot 41, and Andrew Penski had a 42.
"We played really solid today, other than a couple of bad holes," Deakyne said. "I was happy to see our guys stay focused after a bad hole. We are getting a lot closer to where we want to be than we were early in the season. We are a couple of poor swings away from being a really good team right now."

HSE hands Noblesville first softball defeat |
|
NOBLESVILLE - Taylor Rager blasted a solo home run with one out on the top of the eighth Tuesday to give Hamilton Southeastern a 2-1 win over Noblesville in a battle for first place in the Hoosier Crossroads Conference.
Both teams had eight hits. The Millers (13-1, 4-1) left 10 runners on base.
"We didn't expect to go undefeated all season, and we know that's a good, talented team," Noblesville coach Mike Ramsey said. "We've been talking about preparing for such games, and part of that conversation is always 'You have to execute.' We had our chances there several times. We'd get people in scoring position early and have a shot at scoring some runs, and we failed to execute and it made the difference in the game."
Ellen Forkner went 4-for-4 to record half the Millers' hits. Hannah DeSalvo went 2-for-4.
"Our goal is to push ourselves and prepare ourselves for what's going to be an incredible sectional," Ramsey said. "I'm glad we got pushed tonight. I'm glad we saw a little bit of that pressure. For better or for worse, I hope we even learned a few lessons - that you have to pay attention to the details if you're going to beat the better teams. I think we failed to do that tonight, and it cost us our first loss." |
