The Old Hamilton County Sheriff's Residence and Jail was built in 1875-1876.
It served as the Sheriff's Residence and the Jail until 1977. The Hamilton
County Historical Society leases the property from the County Commissioners.
Listed in the National Register of Historic Places, the museum houses
sheriff memorabilia, jail cells, a restored Victorian parlor and bedroom,
Civil War artifacts, a genealogical library and other items of county
historic interest. Admission is free (donations appreciated).
Due to the design of the old building, handicapped access is limited to
the lower level of the building.
Hours: Year round, Thursday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Also open Sunday. 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Memorial Day through Labor Day, or
by appointment.
